Millionaire backs single mum .. after spotting her appeal on Twitter for help with fashion brand
A SINGLE mum sent out a tweet to ask for help with a business idea … and is now launching her own fashion brand after receiving a share of a £5million investment pot!
Rachel Lowe, 36, from Portsmouth, was determined to bounce back after being declared bankrupt when her board games company went under due to the pressures of the recession.
The mum-of-two (pictured above) had her home repossessed and suffered a nervous breakdown, but she showed remarkable resilience to rebuild her life.
She came up with a concept for a new designer brand called She Who Dares (SWD) and sent out a pitch on Twitter for financial backing.
Amazingly, Rachel’s tweet was picked up by millionaire investor Simon Dolan, an entrepreneur with a £5million war chest to invest in new ideas.
He visited Rachel at her two bedroom council house and spotted a logo for She Who Dares, a gifting brand comprised of fragrances, cosmetics and jewellery which is designed to celebrate the achievements of women.
Simon loved the idea and has now backed the SWD brand.
Rachel said: “I sent a pitch to Simon on Twitter and he responded. It has been an unbelievable journey with incredible highs and lows.”
The single mum, who worked as a cab driver during her student years, is no stranger to success.
She was awarded an MBE for service to business after founding her board games company – which ironically had been rejected when she appeared on the first series of the BBC show, Dragons’ Den.
But she lost everything when the company went into administration in 2009.
She said: “Business is personal to those who sacrifice everything and take the risk. Things don’t always work out as you expect them to and dealing with the setbacks is something you can never fully prepare for.”
Thankfully, Rachel’s life is now firmly back on track. You can read more about She Who Dares on Rachel’s website at http://rachellowe.co.uk/
